Charleston, W. Va. – 20 MAY 2024 – Cynisca Cycling’s U23 riders captured the spotlight in downtown Charleston, W. Va. by winning or putting a rider on the podium at every USA Cycling pro/elite U23 championship race this past week.

Chloe Patrick (19) claimed the gold in the U23 criterium championship race plus a silver in the individual time trial (ITT). Teammate Nicole Steinmetz (20) took gold in a tough 127km road race that shattered the field on the first of six laps of the course. And Katherine Sarkisov (20) stood beside Patrick on the criterium podium sporting a bronze medal.

“We are incredibly proud of the progress the Cynisca team has made after only one year of racing,” said Cynisca operations and performance director Robin Farina. “The entire team worked together through training and in the championship races to reach another milestone this week. These victories highlight the essence of what we will achieve moving forward.”

A look to the future

The winning results were made possible by our sponsors and a spring racing campaign in Europe, where the level of competition is the highest in the world.

“Our long-term goals include putting women atop the podiums at the 2028 Olympics in L.A. and at the Tour de France Femmes,” said Cynisca general manager Chris Gutowsky. “To do that, we have to take our riders to Europe and race against the best. The results at the U.S. Nationals confirms how well this process is working. Our current sponsors make this possible and we’re looking for more partners to accelerate our mission of empowering these young women.”

With ten Americans, Cynisca has more US and Canadian riders than any other Continental or World Tour team. Cyniscas competing in the U.S. national championship races included Tess Edwards, Ashley Frye, Cara O’Neill, Allison Mrugal, ChloePatrick, Katherine Sarkisov, Nicole Steinmetz, Lauren Stephens, Claire Windsor and guest rider from Serious Cycling Kayla Davis.

The Cynisca Cycling team wears PEARL iZUMi kits and races on Ventum Racing NS1 frames with Shimano drivetrains, brakes, pedals, power meters, wheels, EnduroBearings components and Vittoria tires. Shimano also supplies the team with comfort and quality from head to toe with Shimano glasses and shoes and Lazer helmets. GU Energy provides nutrition. The team is based in Bloomington, Ind., and trains from its European service course at Château de Saint-Martory in France.
